An interesting Ostrogothic 1/4 siliqua
Lot 1704
OSTROGOTHS. Theoderic, 493-526. 1/4 Siliqua (Silver, 13 mm, 0.95 g, 9 h), branch mint, or perhaps a contemporary imitation. OIƆИYIIVƧTV✱ƧOƧbRVVC Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Anastasius I to right. Rev. ✱ƆƆΛIIOΛΛ+TVNIM Retrograde monogram of Theoderic. Faltin 6a.7 (same dies). An unusually attractive piece. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.

Faltin convincingly argues for a reattribution of the early so-called Gepid 1/4 Siliquae from Sirmium to the Ostrogoths, who captured the city in 504 and controlled it until circa 536. The present piece is either the product of a branch mint, or, alternatively, a contemporary imitation
